New York Women Composers

Additional Info

Founded in 1984, the New York Women Composers has been advocating and promoting music written by living women composers to redress the underrepresentation of women in the field of contemporary music. As one of the longest established composer organizations in the United States, our mission has been to increase awareness of music by women composers through performing, recording, networking, and mentoring opportunities. The NYWC is a resource for performers, musicologists, presenters and curators for the discovery of women’s music. Our advocacy for equitable representation in the field is expanding the inclusion of women’s works in the contemporary concert and recording repertoire.

The NYWC organization is excited to present the winners of our Phase 1 Seed Money Grants, for foreign applicants.
MoonkyungLee, violinist, and Jang Heum Bae, guitarist
Roger Morelló Ros, cellist
Luca Quintavalle, harpsichordist

This year we funded six projects, several of which combine music with other arts to attract new audiences and approach the music in creative ways. The broad geographic scope will increase awareness about women’s music with musicians around the world. The recipients will each receive $750 for the coming season.
