The Grammy-nominated composer, performer, and music educator of depth and versatility Clarice Assad returns to San Antonio for an evening-length collaboration with SOLI Chamber Ensemble this month.

Ever since her sensational San Antonio Debut with SOLI in 2016, Assad and the ensemble have been planning another collaboration to include concerts in San Antonio, followed by a National Tour of the program, and a recording project to memorialize this unique and genre-bending collaboration.

For the occasion, Ms. Assad composed SYNTHETICO, a unique workthat utilizes “Voice Box” technology, as well as beautiful new arrangements for SOLI and voice of her favorite works by Astor Piazzolla, Milton Nascimento, Marcio Borges, and Gabriel Levy. She will also include arrangements of some of her own earlier compositions, including ELEMENTOS, which SOLI commissioned in 2016.

Concert will take placeTuesday, April 2, 2019 at Ruth Taylor Recital Hall on the campus of Trinity University @ 7:30 PM. Please join SOLI and Clarice for Pre-Concert Talks at 7:00 PM.

The program will feature music by one of the most awarded composers of our time, Jennifer Higdon’s beautiful PIANO TRIO, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw’s delicious VALENCIA for string quartet, D.C based award-winning composer Natalie Draper’s 2014 work STRAINS IN THE SIGNAL, and Syrian-American composer Kareem Roustom’s poetic duo for clarinet and viola LETTERS HOME, and his deeply moving sextet TRACES. No season would be complete this year without giving nod to one of America’s most beloved and celebrated composers Leonard Bernstein.  In the year of his 100th birthday, Bernstein continues to be an important figure and a great inspiration for many composers of today. His dark and lyrical duo VARIATIONS ON AN OCTATONIC SCALE for clarinet and cello demonstrates his mastery and inspiration for so many composers today.

Our good friends, spectacular violinist Sarah Silver Manzke, the San Antonio Symphony’s Associate Concertmaster, and internationally esteemed violist from the Miller-Porfiris Duo Rita Porfiris, will be our guests for this exciting program.
