Description

The University of Delaware presents the first preview performance of Serafin Ensemble on Tuesday, April 9 at 8:00 p.m. For the 2019-2020 season, Serafin String Quartet will transition to Serafin Ensemble, a collaborative performance model offering a greater focus on varied chamber music configurations.

Titled French Connection, the concert program includes:

  • Hahn“A Chloris” - Composed in 1913 by Reynaldo Hahn, this work interweaves voice into the piano accompaniment creating a lovely piece that combines Baroque style with French mélodie.
  • Franck Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major - Considered one of the finest sonatas for violin and piano, César Franck composed this work as a wedding present for his young bride, violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. The sonata is known for its deftly balanced violin and piano parts and for its cyclic form.
  • Chausson Piano Trio in g minor - Ernest Chausson’s trio is a hidden treasure of great beauty and significant craft. The work melds together the rich and virtuosic sounds of piano with dynamic sounds of violin and cello and possesses penchant for the cyclic form known of his mentor and friend César Franck.
