Description

Committed to engaging classical/contemporary music, Pathos Trio (percussionists Marcelina Suchocka, Felix Reyes, and pianist/composer Alan Hankers) aims to bring adventurous music to audiences through collaborations with young, living new music composers.

Our project “A Night of Commissions” presents a year long effort of culminating music that has been written exclusively for Pathos Trio by up and coming composers Alison Yun-Fei Jiang, Evan Chapman, Alyssa Weinberg, Alan Hankers, and Finola Merivale.

These works, all written by veterans of the New York City chamber music scene, add new originality to familiar sounds and characteristics that are often times considered synonymous with New York City’s music - from creating unique urban sounds using industrial metals, to utilizing man made/ found objects in unconventional ways, to even expanding on processes used in minimalist music such as that of Steve Reich and blending genres of music together. It is with these trademarks in mind that are distinctly associated with “New York”, while also pushing the boundaries of classical/contemporary music, that Pathos Trio presents to audiences a program that will surely excite audiences.
