Description

A pair of dynamic young American quartets come together in their Society debuts. Sphinx Competition laureates, they present a program featuring Felix Mendelssohn’s famed octet and three works new to PCMS: Kenji Bunch’s Octet (based on Whitman’s poem Election Day, November, 1884); Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s Quartet No. 1 (based on the African American spiritual Calvary); and Fanny Mendelssohn’s only work in the genre, inspired by the quartets of Beethoven.

This commission has been made possible by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Chamber Music America Endowment Fund.
