The second Bach Project event of the season, this concert features some of the nation’s finest period musicians performing solo works by the composer. Praised for her imaginative and inspired performances, American cellist and viola da gamba player Shirley Hunt performs extensively with the nation's leading period instrument ensembles and in recital as a soloist and chamber musician.Harpsichordist Michael Sponseller has appeared throughout Europe and North America with critical acclaim as a soloist, conductor, and chamber musician. Winner of the American Bach Soloists Competition (1998) and the Jurow International Harpsichord Competition (2002), he holds the distinction of being a two-time prizewinner at the Festival of Flanders International Harpsichord Competition (Bruges).A lifelong disciple of Johann Sebastian Bach, organist Andrew Sheranian is the founding director of The Bach Project.Since 2010, Sheranian has been employed as Organist and Master of Choristers at the Parish of All Saints, Ashmont in Boston, an Anglo-Catholic church known for its commitment to excellence in liturgy and music. He has given solo recitals at Boston’s Old West and Old South Churches, Christ Church in Cambridge, Busch Hall at Harvard University, Methuen Memorial Music Hall, St. Mary the Virgin and St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City, and at the Cathedral of the Madeleine and on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. In 2006, Mr. Sheranian undertook a concert tour of Japan, where he played solo recitals at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama.
