The Jazzschool's Monday Night Studio Band, under the direction of Keith Johnson, won 1st place for the third consecutive year following its performance on Sunday, April 3, at the Annual Next Generation Festival (41st Annual National High School Competition) in Monterey, California.

Nicole Mitchell Receives Alpert Award: Jazz flutist/composer Nicole Mitchell is one of five artists receiving a 2011 Alpert Awards in the Arts. Administered by California Institute of the Arts, the annual awards provide five unrestricted prizes of $75,000 each.

John Gilbreath Named a 2011 JJA Jazz Hero The Jazz Journalists Association has named CMA member John Gilbreath, executive director of Earshot Jazz in Seattle, WA as one of its 2011 Jazz Heroes-"activists, advocates, altruists, aiders and abettors of jazz" who have had significant impact in their local area.

Ensemble Dal Niente names new E.D.: Saxophonist Ryan Muncy has been appointed executive director of the Chicago-based new-music group Ensemble Dal Niente. A candidate for the Doctor of Music degree in saxophone performance at Northwestern University, Muncy succeeds founding composer Kirsten Broberg.
