Noteworthy Sheet Music

Herman, Duo 1 for two flutes from NSM: “Jules Herman's ‘Grands Duos Concertants’ are works of ingenuity, charm, brilliance, grace, and humor. Long overlooked, they are extraordinarily fine examples of concert-worthy duets of the late 19th century." PHB

We have some great projects in the works including a Call for Scores from professional composers and our Maverick Apprenticeship program for high school and college age students and ensembles.  Apprentices will have the opportunity to coach with members of the ensemble and perform in concert with us.

Currently working on a set of ten short pieces for euphonium and piano, some of which will premiere in Indiana in June 2014.

Recent work: Moving Seven Ways, for viola and claves, and Scenes from a Fantasy Novel, ten short pieces for piano solo.

Two sonatas for tuba and piano are available for premiere.

We were thrilled to collaborate with The Gunnelpumpers, members of Access Contemporary Music, and Percussionist Steve Butters last weekend at Constellation, formerly the Viaduct Theatre. The eclectic program spanned the range from modernism, to minimalism, to pure improvisation.

Da Camera of Houston

In this fascinating piece, pianist Lara Downes reflects on leaders like Sarah Rothenberg in the dual role of performing artist and concert presenter.

Much new material by composer/leader Larry Chernicoff: violin flies like nightingale among bari sax, bass clar and tbone. Tilted rhythm & tart harmony over solid rhythm section. Rocking group improv becomes celestial chamber sound behind vibes solo. Doowop influence appears. Acoustic chamber sound, wide blend of influences. Beauty+humor.
