My CMA, New Jazz Works commission, “Immortal Obsolescence” will have it’s second performance in the 2018 Winter Jazz Festival, in NYC, on January 12 at The New School Jazz Auditorium at 22:40. The ensemble, in addition to Stomu Takeishi and myself, includes JT Lewis on drums and Stephanie Richards on trumpets.

We were thrilled to have David Biedenbender and his family participate in our Thanksgiving Holiday Concerts! David introduced the emotional back story of "Red Vesper", the work which inspired us to seek him out for the commission. David plans to return in the spring and to be in residence to work on the commission.

Russian Tableaux, written for violin, viola, cello and double bass by the acclaimed contemporary British composer Lydia Kakabadse and recently published by NSM, has three beautiful movements, rich in Russian character. Audio samples & score preview.

Spektral Quartet

Tonia Ko: "I am currently learning about lakeshore geography. In speaking with the quartet about the experience of walking through nature, I am structuring the piece as a sound walk occurring over four movements. I am investigating ways in which the performers can literally carry sounds with them."
