Rawlins Piano Trio
Eunho Kim, Violin Marie-Elaine Gagnon, Cello Susan Keith Gray, Piano
The Rawlins Piano Trio is a dynamic group of performers, teachers and scholars, distinguishing itself in arts outreach, master classes and perfomances in a variety of venues. Touring regularly throughout the United States and abroad--most recently in South Korea, Taiwan and Panama--the Trio presents diverse programming, ranging from standard repertoire to new and undiscovered works. Its projects have highlighted the complete Beethoven piano trio cycle; four CDs of 19th- and early 20th-century American music; and a series of new American music commissions, begun in 2005. The first commissioned composition, Volvic Maritim by Daniel Bernard Roumain was released on CD in 2009. Attracting Opposites (2013) presents five new works for piano trio.
The Rawlins Piano Trio commissioned five American composers--Emma Lou Diemer, James Lentini, Timothy Hoekman, Miguel Roig-Francoli, Stephen Yarbrough...the result is five substantial 21st-century pieces....widely divergent in their approaches.
For their fourth recording on Albany Records, the Rawlins Piano Trio has once again uncovered gems of the American repertoire including three world premiere recordings of the Grasse, Risher and Wilson and a commissioned work from the brilliant young composer Daniel Bernard Roumain.
