Alexander Glazunov’s “Elegy”, Op.44, was written for viola and piano in 1893. The viola melody is without double stops and readily transcribed for other instruments. A lovely version for Bb clarinet has been created by J. W. Pratt and is now available from NSM.
Schubert’s “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” works beautifully as an instrumental arrangement for alto flute (taking the vocal line), clarinet or alto flute obbligato, and piano. NSM's alto flute transcription is excellent concert material as well as the perfect pedagogical device.
Noteworthy Sheet Music has just published the “Snow Pond Composers Workshop Anthology—New Music for Flute 2015”, featuring works by Elliott Schwartz, Edward Jacobs, Richard Nelson, and 8 up-and-coming composers. Available in PDF or print edition.
