Led by Ken Hatfield, recipient of the 2006 ASCAP Foundation Jazz Vanguard Award for “innovative and distinctive music that is charting new directions in jazz,” the Ken Hatfield Ensemble performs acoustic chamber jazz ranging from the great standards of the ‘30s and ‘40s to the modern jazz of recent decades, with a particular focus on Brazilian-influenced jazz and Hatfield’s critically acclaimed original compositions. Built around the nucleus of Hatfield on nylon-string guitar, Hans Glawischnig on bass, and Jeff Hirshfield on drums, the ensemble frequently performs and records with guest artists. Its most recent recording project is For Langston, a jazz song cycle for sextet in which Hatfield set to music poems by Langston Hughes (2/1/13).
