Rhizome [CMA 2014 NEW Jazz Works Recipient] was founded in 2009 and although originally recorded as part of Fabian Almazan's debut album "Personalities" [Biophilia Records], it was not until 2012 that the ensemble adopted the name "Rhizome"-[the subterranean part of a plant that provides the tree/plant with nourishment, making it possible for it to survive from season to season despite the harsh conditions that may exists above-ground]. With piano, bass, drums, voice/guitar and a string quartet as it's core instrumentation, the ensemble has it's roots grounded in jazz and classical traditions; but it is harmony, timbre and rhythm rather than any specific genre that guides Rhizome through its musical journeys.
Gearing up to go perform the music from Rhizome in Japan for the first time this March!
