Jazz, New Music, World Music
A bassist with a solid reputation, an award-winning composer and bandleader, and a devoted world-class educator; Barcelona-born Alexis Cuadrado has become one of the most sought-after musicians in the New York jazz scene.
He recently premiered a new CMA commission: “A Lorca Soundscape”, featuring vocalist Claudia Acuña and saxophonist Miguel Zenón, setting music to poems from Federico García Lorca's “Poeta en Nueva York” ; a text with a striking social commentary that resonates with the world’s current events.
His newest recording, Noneto Ibérico has been recently released to massive critical acclaim. The album is an exploration of Jazz and Flamenco, features top-notch musicians and was conceived after a 2008 CMA commisson.
