With brand new artistic directors at the helm and a fresh approach to concert programming, Weekend of Chamber Music announces its milestone 20th Summer Festival in the Catskills, Transformations, from July 14 to 28. American composer Andrew Waggoner, and his wife cellist Caroline Stinson step into their new roles with a commitment to continuing the world-class performance standardset by Judith Pearce in her 20-year tenure.
The duos first major effort for WCM is the 2013 Summer Festival, dubbed Transformations, July 14 to 28, with six programs scheduled over the two-week period. According to Waggoner, the Festival is built around two main pillars, composer-in-residence John Harbison and his music, including a world premiere, and Pearce’s international career as a flutist and as the founder of WCM.
In addition to Harbison’s music, pieces by Beethoven, Bach, Maw, Martinu, Haydn and Stravinsky are planned. Performers for this special summer tribute to Pearce will include pianist Tannis Gibson, violinists Anna Lim and Nurit Pacht, oboist Matt Sullivan, and others will be announced soon.
Beginning with a free outdoor concert in Jeffersonville, the Festival brings back the Thursday MusicTalks! concerts, two Saturday night main event concerts at the Adams Barn, and a return to the Callicoon Farmers’ Market. Tickets to the Summer Festival go on sale Memorial Day weekend online.
