Salon Series Concert #3
Indulge your senses and immerse yourself in the luxury of great 19th century chamber music with the Cypress String Quartet. This season’s Salon Series explores the ideas ofsturm und drang, darkness and light, and special friendships, with a survey of the complete cycle of DvorakCypresses – a series of 12 love songs for string quartet of varied emotional expression from which the Cypress Quartet takes its name. Each Salon will pair selections from The Cypresses with complementary selections by other composers.
Salon #1 emphasizes high drama, pairing the most tumultuous Cypresses with quartets by Mozart and Beethoven. In Salon #2 we fall in love all over again with Schubert’s great Cello Quintet (Gary Hoffman joins the Cypress for these performances) and we enjoy a taste of 21st century fantasy in French composer Philippe Hersant’s String Quartet No.3. In Salon #3 the hero triumphs as we return to Mozart and Beethoven, while George Tsontakis’s 5th Quartet leads us on an ethereal journey through time.
