Description
Three of Camerata Pacifica's long-time principals come together to perform these extraordinary chamber works. Brahms' virtuosic Violin Sonata No. 3, with four movements and large-scale structure, reflects his work a symphonic composer. Ravel's Sonata Posthume, written only a few years after the Brahms, didn't receive its world premiere until 1975; it was discovered among the composer's papers after his death. The brilliant Duo in G Major by Mozart was written as a favor to composer Michael Haydn (brother of Joseph), who could not complete a commission for six such duos. The program also includes music by the pianist and pedagogue Anton Rubinstein, the romantic and intense Viola Sonata.
