Description

CYNTHIA MILLER FREIVOGEL, violin

Part 1 of an adventure in the historical environment of Bach’s great solo violin music.

Bach’s 3 Partitas and 3 Sonatas for solo violin are a life long journey. The violinist and composer George Enescu called these works "the Himalayas of violinists." Cynthia Miller Freivogel’s journey has championed historical performance practice; not only playing on a baroque violin with gut strings but also putting the partitas and sonatas in the context of other solo violin repertoire from the 17th and early 18th centuries. Her series of Bach for Breakfast lecture recitals at the Screen Door Festival 2017 invites audiences to explore how Bach’s sublime intellectual masterpieces have their roots in a tradition of violin composition and improvisation much more humble in scale by Bach’s predecessors Vilsmayr, Biber, Westhoff, and two of his contemporaries – Pisendel and Telemann.

Called "a stellar artist by any standard" by the Denver PostCynthia Miller Freivogel has shone throughout a startling career that includes performances and residencies with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, ARTEK, Concerto Köln, Concerto d’Amsterdam, Joshua Rifkin’s Bach Ensemble at the Stockholm and Antwerp Early Music Festivals, as well as in the Hague with Collegium Musicum den Haag and Musica Poetica.

Zoot coffee and muffins are available before the concert.
