Description

Now in its 31st season, the Atlantic Brass Quintet will proudly present the 24th annual Atlantic Brass Quintet International Seminar during the summer of 2017.

Founded in 1993 as a summer program for brass students specifically interested in the study of chamber music, the ABQ International Seminar consistently attracts students from around the world. After completing 10 successful summer residencies at the Boston Conservatory, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and State University of New York at Buffalo, in 2004 the program was expanded to include similarly acclaimed artists and educators, Triton Brass. The program has continued to flourish presenting successful residencies at Boston College, Boston University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University and now at Tufts University.

Students over 15 years of age apply either as individuals or as a pre-formed group by submitting a recorded playing sample to be evaluated for admission. The two-week-long seminar begins on Sunday afternoon July 9th 2017 with arrival, registration and housing check-in, followed by auditions. Once auditions are complete, quintets are formed, taking into consideration individual students’ level of playing and leadership. The groups are then assigned music to prepare. During the two weeks, the quintets receive intensive coachings from the faculty, attend master-classes and open rehearsals as well as three faculty recitals by Atlantic, Triton and their combined ensemble, Tritantic. At the end of each week, each quintet gives a final performance of the repertoire they have prepared.
